ECO-SCHOOLS!

The schools!!

Basically, we'll be stopping at on our way up to Mt Kenya.

At the schools we'll be spreading the message of LIVING IN A SUSTAINABLE MANNER with the environment.

The program will cover 2-3 days at each school. Being, as interactive with the students as possible.

Topics such as:

• General spectrum of being Eco-friendly (I.E Reduce, reuse, recycle Etc.)
• Targeting local issues within their community & helping the students solve these problems
• Showing the students how to start campaign and community based programs which will be effective and long term (I.E Recycling programs and "plant a tree day")

THE ECO-ROUTE!!!

On the 14th of April we'll be heading from Cape Town through to Africa's 2nd highest peak!! Taking standard Public transport and Sustainable means(ie. cycling Etc)...

The Trip will cover 14,000km and we'll be exploring 6 different African nations!

• South Africa(start)
• Namibia
• Zambia
• Malawi
• Tanzania
• Top of Kenya!!

Jonathan 'JONO' Joseph

Age 37

I find myself most at home in wild rugged places, and strive to ensure that future generations are afforded the same opportunity to explore a still-magnificent planet. There is enough left for everyone, but only if we act now.Although I had very adventurous upbringing I only discovered mountains properly in 2001 when, after one Drakensberg hike and some beginner rock climbing I decided to give Kilimanjaro a bash. No-one was available to join me so I set off on my own and came back after a successful summit hooked on mountaineering, but realised that these experiences are best shared. I have since been blessed with opportunities to explore some of South Africa’s most amazing mountains and share ropes with some of the country’s finest climbers.

My love for mountains, my love for Africa, and my love for people makes me very proud to be a part of the Kape to Kenya Expedition.

My name is Kim Harrisberg.

I am 20 years old and study Law, English and Psychology at Wits university in Johannesburg.
I was lucky enough to attend the North Pole Selection camp which I found challenging but extremely enlightening -
it showed me how much the human mind and body are capable of and since then I have a persistent urge to explore this world
further whilst challenging myself as an individual. I enjoy running, yoga and hiking and recently became a part of the Wits
Explorers club from which I hope to learn a lot. I am actively involved in a youth movement that runs educational projects as well
as many social initiatives. An example is a march to the union buildings (in association with Equal Education) that took place recently to demand adequate libraries for
South African schools. I will be running my third 21 km Two Oceans marathon in a weeks time and am excited to see my fitness improve each year.
I hope to end up in a career in the environmental field, potentially in Environmental Law, as this is the direction I want my life to take.
I think the Kape to Kenya project is a perfect example of the capability and responsibility that the youth possess to learn, grow and to make a change in this
life time.

Profile of Brandon Finn

Brandon (North Pole YEP) is 20 year old student at the University of Cape Town currently studying Environmental and Geographical Sciences, Xhosa and Psychology. I have a passion for the environment, travelling, sport and people and am heavily involved with student life at my Residence- where I am the Head Student. I am actively involved in soccer, running and hiking. I believe in a single human’s ability to do incredible and impactful things for others and the environment, however I also feel that too many people do not harness this ability and are too easily apathetic and end up being a detriment to the environment that they are in. I am confident in my own ability and love sharing information by both leading and learning and am so attracted to the Kape to Kenya project because it provides one with a phenomenal platform on which to do this while promoting sustainable development throughout Africa.

Kai Fitchen!

17 year old, who has been diagnosed with Epilepsy. HE ALSO LIKES MOUNTAINS!

As a teenager he has climbed MT. Kilimanjaro(2009) and North Face of Mt. Elbrus (Europe's highest- July 2010) for Epilepsy South Africa with one goal in mind, which was to raise awareness of the condition.

He was chosen for the Pangaea Mike Horn Young Explorers Program (YEP) to the Himalayas(June 2010). This gives him an opportunity to challenge another passion of his, ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES! During the 5th PANGAEA expedition the team did research concerning Climate Change on Baltorro glacier as well as summiting an uncharted peak, which they got to name, Pangaea Peak(6170m)!!- near K2
